Jacks embark on final 2010 road trip
The Jackrabbits snapped a pair of streaks last weekend with a Summit League weekend sweep of IUPUI and Western Illinois. First and foremost, the Jacks won both league games in a weekend for the first time in six straight league weekends, dating back to 2009. Second, the Jacks snapped their streak of playing four straight five set matches with the 3-0 win over Western Illinois on Saturday.
The week as a whole turned out well for SDSU, but started with a scary moment on Tuesday, when sophomore Kelli Fiegen suffered an injury warming up for the match against Drake. She sat out the match for precautionary reasons and the Jacks lost 3-2, but she returned to the lineup for the weekend, and led the team with 31 kills in the two wins, and did so with an impressive .464 hitting percentage.
Ellyce Youngren leads the Jackrabbit offense after 23 matches with 280 kills and with 27 service aces. Fiegen ranks second on the team with 255 kills, leads all hitters with a .371 hitting percentage, and easily leads the team and with 108 total blocks, 35 solo and 73 block assists. Thyele Rechatiko handles the setting duties for the Jackrabbits and leads the team with 12 double-doubles, while libero Shay Birath leads the Jackrabbit defense with 406 digs.
FIEGEN BREAKS FIVE SET RECORD - Middle blocker Kelli Fiegen broke the Jackrabbit record for hitting percentage in a five set match on Oct. 8, with 17 kills in 27 swings with just one error for an astounding .593 hitting percentage and led the Jacks to a 3-2 over Western Illinois in the process. Fiegen broke the old mark of .550 (12-1-20) set by Kim Bostrom vs. Harding (Ark.), on Aug. 31, 2002.
