Less than a month after setting the South Dakota State record for hitting percentage in a five-set win at Western Illinois with a .593 performance, Jackrabbit sophomore Kelli Fiegen hit .581 on Tuesday against South Dakota for the second-best total, only this time in a loss.

South Dakota improved to 9-17 by the set scores of 25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-11. The Jacks fall to an even 13-13 heading into Saturday's showdown with Summit League leader North Dakota State.

Tuesday also marked the Jacks 10th five set match of the season, the most since 1998, and one shy of the program-high of 11, set in 1990.

Fiegen led the Jacks with 19 kills in the win with just one error in 31 swings to reach her impressive total. Kaitlin Klingemann added a career-high 18 kills in the win. Ellyce Youngren added 16 kills in the loss.

Shay Birath led the Jackrabbit defense with 28 digs, while Emily Palmer pitched in with a career-high 23 digs.

Kristin Kritenbrink led the Coyotes with a match-high 23 kills. Natalie Walseth added 12, while Tori Kroll and Tahnee Redd both finished with 10. Kroll added 49 set assists and 11 digs to complete the matches only triple-double.

The match started close, but the visitors used a 7-2 run to secure the 25-18 win. The Jacks pulled away midway through the second set to tie the match at 1-1, and then held off a late rally to win the third set 25-23.

Tied at 18 the fourth set, South Dakota rattled-off its second 7-2 run of the night to close the set and force the fifth and deciding set, a set that the Coyotes led from start to finish.

The Jacks return to Summit League action on Saturday, when they host North Dakota State at 7:30 p.m. in Frost Arena.
