INDIANAPOLIS - The South Dakota State volleyball team closed out a winless weekend on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind., with a 3-0 loss to IUPUI, falling by the set scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-18.
"We missed defensive assignments and the lack of a sense of urgency plagued us tonight," head coach Phil McDaniel said. "Our offense has been sputtering and we need an infusion of energy."
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to an even 12-12 overall and 4-7 in The Summit League, while the Jaguars improve to an even 11-11 overall and 6-5 in the league.
Kelli Fiegen led the anemic SDSU offense with eight kills in the loss, as SDSU struggled to hit just .098 in the match. She also added a trio of block assists. Kaitlin Klingemann added seven kills and Kelly Herrmann six kills to go along with her 11 digs.
A night after setting the SDSU 3-set record with 32 digs, Shay Birath finished the match with 20 digs.
Kelsey Hoefer led the Jags offense with 15 kills in the win, Moriah Fair added 11 kills and led IUPUI with 19 digs, while Kalyse Reimbold finished with 10 kills.
The Jackrabbits look to right the ship next weekend with a pair of Summit League contests at home, starting with Oakland on Friday IPFW on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
