Jacks swept in non-conference action
South Dakota State hosted former North Central Conference foe North Dakota on Monday for the first time since Nov. 7, 2003, a reunion that went much better for the visitors, who return to Grand Forks with a 3-0 win.
The Jackrabbits record falls to 12-16 by the set scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22. North Dakota improves to 23-4 with the win.
Kaitlin Klingemann led the Jackrabbits with 10 kills in the loss, adding three block assists. Kelli Fiegen finished with eight kills, which gives her 990 for her career, leaving her just 10 shy of reaching the 1,000-kill milestone. Fiegen also finished with four block assists and a pair of solo blocks.
Shay Birath led the Jackrabbit defense with 22 digs, and passed Sarah Simet (1,233 digs from 2001-14) for 10th on the all-time digs list at SDSU with 1,246.
Annika Smed led the visitors with a match-high 14 kills and added 17 digs for the matches only double-double. Lisa Parlich added 13 and Ronni Munkeby 10 in the win.
The Jackrabbits return to the road one final time this season this week, with matches at Southern Utah on Thursday and at Oral Roberts on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. local time.
