Garner wins number 30
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - South Dakota State had great success at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays, most notably the women’s hammer throw, as four throwers placed in the top five. Brooke Garner won 30th career event as a Jackrabbit. She won the hammer throw with her distance of 196’ 3.00”.
Shelby Assmus placed second with her mark of 165’ 8.00”. In fourth was Mckenzie Johnson with a distance of 164’ 2.00”. Johnson’s mark is a new personal best. Amy Paulzine finished fifth and also set a new personal best with a throw of 159’ 4.00”.
Assmus also took second in the shot put with a mark of 43’ 5.00”.
In the javelin throw, Paulzine finished fourth with a distance of 122’ 10.00”.
Alex Suhr placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:30.14.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Gina Fritz, Ashley Odegaard, Megan Bren and Carly Carper won the race with a time of 46.71. Their time ranks third in SDSU history; Earlier this year they ran a time of 46.91.
Jessica McDonald ran a time of 59.47 in the 400-meter dash.
In the 800-meter run, Krista Creager finished second with her time of 2:15.99.
Karley Konkol also ran in the 800-meter and she finished in 2:19.56.
The Jackrabbits also set a small group of athletes to compete in the NDSU Tune-Up in Fargo, N.D.
Samantha Anderson finished tenth in the 1500-meter run with her time of 5:01.40.
In the high jump, Kali Olson placed second with a height of 5’ 03.75”.
Amy Leiferman was the only Jackrabbit to compete in the pole vault and she finished sixth. She recorded a mark of 11’ 00.75”.
Meghan Lambert competed in the triple jump for SDSU and she placed fourth with a distance of 35’ 05.25”.The Jackrabbits will be back in action again tomorrow at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. The events start at 8 a.m. with the women’s discus throw.
