South Dakota State University right-side hitter Kristina Martin was named Division I Independent Offensive Player of the Week following a record-setting performance last week.
A 6-foot junior from Hubertus, Wis., hit .407 and averaged 5.50 kills per game in three matches last week. At Montana on Oct., 30, Martin tallied 16 kills and hit .469 (16-1-32) in a three-game sweep of the Grizzlies. The next night, at Montana State, Martin set a Jackrabbit rally-scoring record with 33 kills in a four-game match as she hit .508 (33-3-59) and added 11 digs. Martin closed out the week with a six-kill outing in a three-game loss to North Dakota State.
Martin will help lead the Jackrabbits, 21-10 overall, into this weekend's Division I Independent Tournament in Fargo, N.D. SDSU will face Providence (R.I.) at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by an 8 p.m. matchup Friday versus defending champion Utah Valley State.
