USA Volleyball holds its largest-ever single tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team on Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the field of 175 athletes participating the event includes South Dakota State players Ellyce Youngren and Fiona Jones.

"We're happy to support Ellyce and Fiona as two participants to attend this year's national team tryout," SDSU head volleyball coach Nanabah Allison-Brewer said. "This is a huge opportunity for our girls to learn about the next level of volleyball and gage where they are physically and technically."

Athletes in college like Youngren and Jones with collegiate eligibility remaining for the 2010 season may be invited to participate in the USA Senior A2 Team, tentatively scheduled to take place in Phoenix from May 24 through June 2.

A Brookings native all-Summit League first-team selection in 2009, Youngren competes with 20 other players at her position for a place on the team. A Bountiful, Utah native and the only Jackrabbit to play in all 103 sets in 2009, Jones competes against 41 other players to earn a place in Phoenix in May.

"Regardless of what happens, this experience will be a lifelong memory that they can say they tried and have no regrets," added Allison-Brewer. "And their attendance at the tryout gives USA Volleyball a chance to identify them as future Olympic hopefuls. It's a wonderful experience for SDSU Volleyball and I'm honored and thankful SDSU is supportive of this trip."
