Hey All!

Yet another day has come and gone down here in good ol' Texas! As some of you may have heard, we experienced some pretty crazy weather down here in Tornado Alley. Yesterday afternoon we were briefed on severe weather procedures, but I don't think many of us thought we would actually have to put them into effect. However, last night we were proven wrong. As many of the girls and I were watching the NBA Playoff game between the Heat and the Bulls, we were told we had to clear the commons area because there was too much glass, and we were in a severe weather warning.

A bunch of us then cramped ourselves into the first floor hallway for about an hour waiting for the storm to pass. Eventually, we were told that it was safe to return to our rooms, but the storm had not yet passed. The sirens sounded at one point, and the residence hall staff began making rounds telling us that if we feel things starting to shake we should probably get into the bathroom of our suites about as quickly as possible. And we are supposed to sleep after being told this?!

No worries, we all survived the crazy weather down here! The sun was out and shining and not a cloud in the sky when we got up and headed to breakfast. In the first session, we were split into our three teams: Red, White and Blue. The teams were picked in attempts to have three even teams. I was placed on team USA Red, coached by Ohio State Head Coach Geoff Carlston and former UCLA assistant Kim Jagd. The roster for team USA Red is as follows:

Today was our first full day together, so both practices were spent playing and just connecting with each other. We have a very talented team, and I'm looking forward to playing with these girls! Like yesterday, we had two practices and both sessions we did a lot of live play work building connections and establishing a tempo at which we want to compete. Soreness and fatigue were definitely setting in by the end of today, but we still got two solid practices in and ready to get after it again tomorrow. I'm learning more and more everyday about how to play more efficiently and be a better middle blocker, but also a better teammate and leader.

Well let's pray for favorable weather and no tornadoes! Hope all is well with everyone!

Go Big. Go Blue. Go Jacks!
God Bless,
Kelli Fiegen
