Hello, Hello!

USA Open Championships Day 1!

The Dallas Convention Center was filled with adult teams of all ages. They say that volleyball is a lifetime sport, and they are not kidding! The true full circle of volleyball is represented here in Dallas. Men's and women's' teams, young and older, filled the Convention Center just loving the game of VOLLEYBALL! Also, when I say older, I mean there is like a 60+ division and it is AWESOME! The Special Olympics even have two courts running all day Saturday and Sunday, and our team went over and supported them. We got to mingle with some of the different Special Olympic teams and it was so great! They just love the opportunity to play. They don't care who wins or loses; they just play for the joy of the game. It was a really humbling time, because so many people are blessed with talents and abilities that others are not. It was a great reminder of how blessed I am and my teammates truly are.

Today had yet another teaching moment off the court, and that's what an honor it is to wear the letters USA on your clothing. People would double or triple take at our team because of the logos and letters on our uniforms. It reminded me yet again that it is truly an opportunity and an honor to play on the USA A2 Team.

Team Red jumped out to a fantastic start in pool play! We started off the day at 11:20 a.m. against USA Team White. After a little battling back and forth, Team Red won in three sets, playing the best of five. We took a short break before playing again at 2:40 p.m. against the Exterminators, a team composed of former college players from all across the country. They had girls from Stanford, Arizona and Florida just to name a few. Team Red took the first two sets pretty handily, but struggled in the middle of set three. However, we pulled it together, fought back and won the third set for win number two on the day.

Tomorrow we start the day at 9:40 a.m. against a team from Toronto. Then, we play again at 1 p.m. against USA Team Blue to wrap up pool play. If Team Red can finish with two more wins tomorrow, that would give us the No. 1 seed for our bracket. The No. 1 seed would give us a bye through Round 1 of tournament play, BUT we need to focus one game at a time!

Go Big. Go Blue. Go Jacks!
God Bless,
Kelli Fiegen

Editor's Note: Fiegen and USA Team Red downed USA Team White 3-0, by the set scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 26-24. Fiegen and company then went on to beat The Exterminators 3-0, by the set scores of 30-28, 25-11 and 25-21. Individual stats or box scores are not currently available.
