US Open National Championships Day 3!
12:10 p.m. -- USA Red vs. USA White. Team White jumped out at us right off the bat. We had a target on us and they had their sights on us. Team Red started off well and we were up 13-8 when things turned for the worse. White had a great topspin server back on the line and she went for probably 10 in a row! Before we knew it, we were down 18-13. Team Red dropped the first set. The loss was just fuel for us though. We came back to win the next 3 in a row to take the victory for the day! It was a battle the entire match, but we knew what we needed to do to get business done.
After our match, we stayed and watched a couple of the other teams play and scouted them. Since we won, we had the rest of the day off, so afterward was when the fun began. For all of you who may not know, I am kind of a history nerd, and Dallas is home to one of my most all-time favorite moments in history... the JFK assassination conspiracy! So after we left the Convention Center, you can about imagine how pumped I was to hear that we were going downtown Dallas to not only drive the route that JFK drove that infamous day BUT we were going to WALK Elm Street and along the grassy knoll! The craziest part of the JFK Memorial was our team standing on the grassy knoll and watched the Zapruder film on a coach's iPhone, and it was so trippy because it was kind of like we were watching it happen. We were moving the phone like it was happening right before us! Gosh, how cool of an experience and just knowing we were standing in a place where some epic history happened!!
Team Red gets the morning started early with an 8 a.m. match against Team Blue! Our schedule after that again will be determined by how we finish that match. If we win, we play in the championship at 5 p.m. However, if the match goes the other way, we drop to the losers bracket, but since it's double elimination, we would have the chance to fight back into the championship! The only three remaining teams after today's matches are the three USA teams, so playoffs should be an interesting and intense battle!
Go Big. Go Blue. Go Jacks!
