South Dakota State closed the first half of The Summit League season over the weekend with a pair of home losses, falling to UMKC on Friday by a 3-1 score, and to South Dakota on Saturday in five sets. The Jackrabbits now get a short break from league play, as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on the Northern Iowa Panthers on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
South Dakota State won the first set with UMKC on Friday night by a 25-18 score, but dropped the next three in the battle of 4-2 Summit League teams by the set scores of 27-25, 25-21 and 25-23 to fall 3-1 in the match.
Trailing 10-4 in the fifth set of Saturday's match with South Dakota, it looked like South Dakota State would crumble and fall, but the Jackrabbits fought back to tie the match and fended off two match points, before eventually dropping the set 18-16 and the match 3-2.
Lexi Fowler posted her sixth double-double of the season with 30 set assists and 13 digs, as the Jacks closed the first half of the league season with an even 4-4 record.

FIEGEN CRACKS TOP-10 IN CAREER KILLS - Kelli Fiegen posted 21 kills at Southern Utah on Nov. 3, 2011 to become the 15th member of the SDSU 1,000-Kills Club and just the sixth member to reach the mark as a junior. Now a senior, Fiegen cracked the all-time top-10 in the Jacks win over North Dakota State on Sept. 16, and enters the week with 1,303 career kills, good for seventh all-time and 84 shy of passing Merridee Peterson-Rodel (1,386 kills from 1994-97) for sixth on the all-time list.
FIEGEN BLOCKS INTO THE TOP-10 - In addition to her offensive prowess, Kelli Fiegen makes her defensive mark on the block. The senior enters the week ranked ninth all-time at SDSU with 101 solo blocks and second all-time with 372 block assists.
KLINGEMANN POISED TO REACH 1,000 KILL MILESTONE - Kaitlin Klingemann recorded 304 kills in 2011 as a junior, giving her 762 in her career and leaving her 238 kills shy of becoming the 16th member of the SDSU 1,000-Kills Club. She enters this week with 967 kills, 43 shy of reaching the milestone.
BIRATH CHASING ALL-TIME DIGS RECORD - Shay Birath became the 13th member of the SDSU 1,000-Digs Club, and just the fifth member of the club to reach the milestone as a junior, at Oakland on Sept. 24, 2011. She climbed into second all-time on Sept. 22, in a win over Western Illinois, and enters the week with a 1,739 career digs, 190 away from a new school record.
HERRMANN ON PACE TO JOIN 1,000-DIGS CLUB - After posting more than 300 digs in each of the last two seasons, Kelly Herrmann entered her senior season 254 digs shy of becoming the 14th member of the SDSU 1,000-Digs Club. She enters the week with 973 digs, 27 shy of the milestone.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT
Northern Iowa Panthers (14-6, 8-1 Valley) - A perennial power in the Missouri Valley, Northern Iowa plays only its fourth home match of the season against the Jackrabbits on Tuesday, but can claim victory in all three of the previous matches.
The Panthers played their first match at home on Sept. 11, defeating Northern Illinois by a 3-1 score, and didn't play at home again until Sept. 28 and 29, when they swept Missouri State and beat Wichita State 3-1.
UNI returns home this week after splitting a pair of 3-1 matches over the weekend, falling at Creighton on Friday for their only conference loss of the season before beating Drake on Saturday. The loss at Creighton snapped the Panthers Missouri Valley Conference winning streak at 59 regular season matches and 65 matches overall against conference foes.
The Series vs. Northern Iowa - The Panthers lead the all-time series 4-0, with wins in each of the last four seasons, including 3-0 sweeps in the last three seasons and a 3-1 win in the first meeting on Sept. 23, 2008.
