Volleyball falls to IUPUI on Pink Night
The South Dakota State volleyball team hosted preseason Summit League co-favorite and defending regular season champion IUPUI on Friday in the annual pink match to raise money for cancer research, but lost the contest in three sets, falling by the set scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-15.
“I thought our aggressiveness tonight, or lack thereof, was the absolute difference in that match, we were passive in serve receive, we were not as aggressive attacking the ball as we should be, we just seemed to not have much confidence tonight,” head coach Phil McDaniel said. “We have to find a way to get back on the court and get that confidence back tomorrow against IPFW.”
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 3-16 on the season overall, and to 1-5 in the league, while the Jaguars improve to 10-12 overall and to 4-2 in the league.
IUPUI’s Moriah Fair and Kaitlyn Hickey led all players in the match with 10 kills, with Beth Howard pacing all defensive players with 14 digs. Hickey added four solo blocks in the win, as the Jaguars won the blocking battle 12-3.
The Jackrabbits close the weekend on Saturday against Fort Wayne, the other preseason co-favorite and the defending Summit League Tournament champions. The Mastodons come to Brookings following a 3-1 loss at North Dakota State on Friday night.
