Wolters named Player of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League named South Dakota State point guard Nate Wolters its Player of the Week on Monday for the third time this season after he broke the SDSU sophomore scoring record.
The St. Cloud, Minn., native finished the weekend with 537 points on the season, which tops the old mark of 534, set by Mark Tetzlaff in 1983.
Wolters claimed his third award this season after averaging 29.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in a pair of road games against top-half league opponents. At IPFW, Wolters scored 22 of his 30 points in the second half to lead the Jackrabbits to their first-ever win in Fort Wayne. He also added nine rebounds, seven assists and one steal while converting 11-of-13 free throw attempts.
Two nights later at league champion Oakland, Wolters scored 29 points to break the scoring record, connecting on 11 field goals, with six assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Wolters and the Jackrabbits close out the 2010-11 regular season on Friday, when they travel to Fargo, N.D. to take on North Dakota State at 7 p.m.
