Jackrabbit men sign point guard
Fresh off of its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the South Dakota State men's basketball team added a point guard on Wednesday, as Jake Bittle signed a National Letter of Intent, indicating his plans to enroll at South Dakota State in the fall and compete for the Jackrabbit basketball team.
"We're extremely excited about Jake Bittle joining our program. He brings the qualities that we look for in the players and in the people we want here at South Dakota State," head coach Scott Nagy said. "Jake is a coach's kid and it shows in how he plays the point guard position with his ability to run a team and lead a program. Jake fits right in with the pieces we have in place and I expect him to play a valuable role in our program for years to come."A four-year starter for the class 6A Bixby Spartans in Bixby, Okla., Bittle helped lead his team to back-to-back Oklahoma State Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012, where he earned all-tournament team and numerous other all-tournament honors. He averaged 13 points per game as a senior and led the team with 5.4 rebounds per game. He also averaged 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game as a senior in 2011-12.
For his efforts on the court, Bittle earned an Oklahoma Coaches Association all-State team selection and an invitation to participate in the Annual Faith Seven game, which features the 10 best seniors in Oklahoma versus the 10 best seniors from Texas.
