BOSTON, Mass. - CollegeInsider.com announced the 25 finalists for the 2013 Lou Henson Award on Monday, a list that includes South Dakota State point guard Nate Wolters.
"We're so proud of Nate and his many accomplishments, and the nomination
for the Lou Henson Award reminds us once again how special he is, and what he
has meant to our program," head coach Scott Nagy said. "This award holds even
more significance for me, because the Nagy family learned so much from Coach
Henson and his wife Mary. My dad played for coach and was his assistant
for 18 years, and I had the opportunity to coach under him as a very young
coach. We could never repay him for what he has done for us."
For the second straight year CollegeInsider.com teamed up with
Point3 Basketball to promote the Lou Henson award "fan vote," which constitutes
33 percent of the final vote. Look for voting details at a later date.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top
Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor
of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41
years. When he left the game in 2005 he ranked sixth all-time in career
Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New
Mexico State, and one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two
schools to the Final Four.
The 2013 Award will be presented at the CollegeInsider.com
awards banquet in Atlanta, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
