South Dakota State University guard Jill Young has been named Summit League Player of the Week after leading the Jackrabbit women's basketball team to a pair of key road victories.
A junior from Mitchell, Young averaged 15.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as the Jackrabbits knocked off Oakland (Mich.) and IPFW. She opened the weekend by sinking 5-of-11 three-point attempts en route to 15 points in the win at Oakland on Feb. 19. Two nights later, Young posted her first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 10 rebounds as the Jackrabbits upended second-place IPFW, 50-47.
Young shot 47 percent (8-for-17) on three-pointers to move into a tie for third place on the SDSU career three-point chart with 213. She has made a three-pointer in 19 consecutive games. Young also averaged two assists and one steal per game.
The Jackrabbits have won four games in a row and seven of their last eight to improve to 15-13 overall, 11-6 in The Summit League. SDSU closes the regular season Saturday night at North Dakota State.
