South Dakota State University guard Jill Young finished the 2011-12 season ranked in the top four among NCAA Division I players in a pair of shooting statistics.
A senior from Mitchell, Young finished in a tie for second place in free throw percentage at 90.5 percent. Both Young and Chassidy Fussell of Texas made 86-of-95 free throw attempts during the season, trailing Abby Oliver of Richmond (Va.) at 93.8 percent (106-of-113). Players must average 2.5 made free throws per game in order to qualify for the NCAA statistical rankings.
The SDSU and Summit League career record holder with 305 made three-pointers, Young shot 41.7 percent (83-of-199) from behind the arc during her senior season to rank fourth nationally. Young finished third in three-point percentage at 46.1 percent during her freshman campaign during the 2008-09 season. Courtney Ingersoll of Toledo (Ohio) led Division I players during the 2011-12 season by shooting at a 44.2 percent clip (96-of-217) from long range. Players must average two made three-pointers per game to qualify for the rankings.
Young also ranked 34th individually with an average of 2.52 made three-pointers per game.
As a team, the Jackrabbits ranked in the top 25 of three different categories en route to a 24-9 overall record and their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. SDSU finished 11th in team three-point percentage, 36.5 percent; 18th in rebound margin, plus-7.1 rebounds per game, and 24th in three-point field goals per game, 7.0.
