Jackrabbits Return to Frost Arena
Sporting the nation’s 13th-longest home win streak, the South Dakota State women’s basketball team (14-7, 5-0) returns to the friendly confines of Frost Arena Thursday to host the Denver Pioneers (5-15, 3-2) at 7 p.m.
Sitting atop the Summit League standings, the Jackrabbits enter the game with a 12-game home win streak, dating to last season, and a five-game overall win streak after beating North Dakota State, 73-53, Jan. 25. Freshman Kerri Young came off the bench to score a career- and game-high 23 points in the win.
The Pioneers, currently tied for third in the league with IPFW, enter Thursday’s game on a modest two-game win streak after defeating Western Illinois, 87-83, Jan. 26.
SDSU is ranked 21st in the latest mid-major poll.

-Thursday’s game marks the first-ever Summit League contest between South Dakota State and Denver after the Pioneers join the league last year.
-SDSU leads The Summit League with a 5-0 record. The Jacks also started 5-0 last year. The 2012-13 team opened league play 6-0 before losing at IUPUI Feb. 14, 2013.
-SDSU is 2-0 in league play at home and is 9-0 in Frost Arena this season.
-South Dakota State is 37-6 all-time (.860 winning percentage) in Frost Arena in Summit League contests. The last time it lost a league home game was vs. IUPUI Jan. 19, 2013.

-Head coach Aaron Johnston’s probable starters vs. Denver are senior Hannah Strop (3.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg), junior forward Mariah Clarin (8.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg), junior guards Megan Waytashek (11.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg), Gabrielle Boever (5.6 ppg, 2.7 apg) and senior guard Steph Paluch (9.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg). The lineup sports a 12-6 record.
-Waytashek has scored in double figures in 12 of 21 games, and seven other Jacks have posted double-digit scoring games. Waytashek, senior Steph Paluch, junior Megan Stuart and freshman Kerri Young have SDSU’s only 20-plus point games this season. Waytashek registered the Jacks’ third double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds at Western Illinois Jan.16. Clarin recorded the team’s first two double-doubles.
