The South Dakota State women's soccer team blew out Northern Iowa 4-0 on Sunday afternoon...

Alyssa Brazil wasted little time, scoring the first goal in the third minute and the Jacks never looked back. Christa Nyblom controlled the ball in the box after a scramble and crossed to an unmarked Brazil. The goal was the first of her season and career.

It took 24 minutes for SDSU to score its second goal, but it opened the door for three goals in an eight-minute span.

Darci Miller scored her third goal of the season on a shot from well outside the box. Miller controlled it and dribbled forward a few yards before a strong strike.

One and one-half minutes later, Diana Potterveld was open in front of the net for the third goal. Caylee Costello, up the field from her defender position, crossed the ball in front of the net to an unmarked Potterveld for her second goal of the season.

In the 34th minute, Stacy Guijarro finished the first-half scoring with another strong strike from the top of the box. Guijarro controlled the ball, dribbled and put the shot over the head of the goalkeeper.

SDSU led the first half in shots (8-4), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (5-1). SDSU was whistled for three fouls and one offside, while UNI was whistled for the inverse, one foul and three offside.

Megan Kingston led the Jackrabbit attack with two shots, both on goal. Four players scored goals and two were credited with assists.

Elisa Stamatakis made two saves in the first half, including a brilliant one-on-one save in the 26th minute when the score was 1-0 in favor of SDSU.

The second half was much quieter, as neither team scored.

"It was great to finally finish some of our chances today," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "I thought we took control of the game from the opening whistle and were very strong in the first half. It is another positive step for our team this season."

SDSU led the game in shots (11-5), shots on goal (7-3) and corner kicks (7-2). SDSU was whistled for nine fouls and four offside, while UNI was whistled for four fouls and five offside.

Miller led the Jackrabbit offense with three shots, one on goal and one goal.

Stamatakis made three saves en route to her third shutout of the season.

SDSU improved to 2-5-1, while UNI dropped to 4-7-0.

Next up SDSU plays its final non-conference game of the season at Creighton on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.
