The South Dakota State women's soccer team fought hard, but fell in the second overtime at NDSU, 2-1...

SDSU played even through 19 minutes of overtime, but the Bison took advantage of a header to score the game-winning goal with 40 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

The Jacks dominated the first half offensively with the advantage in shots (8-1) and shots on goal (6-0). The two teams tied with one corner kick apiece. NDSU was whistled for four fouls and two offside, while SDSU was whistled for one foul and zero offside.

Megan Kingston led the Jackrabbit attack with three shots, one on goal. Diana Potterveld registered two shots, both on goal.

Elisa Stamatakis was not forced to make a save in the first half.

Nine minutes into the second half, Christa Nyblom took the cross from Potterveld and scored from 12 yards out. The goal was the second of the season for Nyblom, on the first assist of the season for Potterveld.

SDSU was unable to hold the lead, however, as the Bison evened the score at 1-1 in the 81st minute.

Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie.

SDSU dominated regulation offensively with the advantage in shots (18-4), shots on goal (8-1) and corner kicks (9-1). Both teams were whistled for five fouls in regulation, while NDSU was whistled for five offside to one on SDSU.

The first overtime period came and went without a score. SDSU continued to attack with two shots, but was unable to find the net.

In the second overtime, SDSU did not attempt a shot. The Bison attempted one shot and made it count, scoring the game-winning goal.

"This was a crushing loss for us today," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "We had so many chances to put the game away, but we just can't find a way to get the results I think we deserve. Credit to NDSU for getting back in the game the way they did. All we can do is carry on and hope the breaks start to go our way."

The Jacks led in shots (20-5), shots on goal (8-2) and corner kicks (9-1), but NDSU took advantage of its shots on goal, scoring both. SDSU was whistled for nine fouls and three offside, while NDSU was whistled for six fouls and eight offside.

Kingston finished with five shots, one on goal, while Hannah Phillips finished with four shots, one on goal.

Stamatakis did not record a save.

SDSU drops to 2-7-1, 0-1-0 in The Summit League.

NDSU improves to 4-6-0, 1-0-0 in the conference.

The Jacks return to Friday, Sunday series play on the road at Fort Wayne and Oakland. SDSU visits the Mastodons on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and the Golden Grizzlies on Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
