Three named all-league
The South Dakota State women's
soccer team secured three all-league selections, led by The Summit League Freshman of the Year Diana Potterveld.
Potterveld, who scored the first SDSU hat-trick since 2004, was the only freshman named to the first team. She scored eight goals, the most for an SDSU forward in a single season since 2008, and registered 19 total points. Potterveld scored the game-winning goal in SDSU’s final three games this season, all versus conference opponents. It was the first time in school history that one player scored three-straight game-winning goals. Her 10 points in a three-game span are the most since Jennifer Briggs recorded 15 points in a three-game span in 2003. She scored 12 of her 19 points in the final five regular season games. Potterveld earned Offensive Player of the Week recognition for her performance Oct. 26.
Potterveld was also named The Summit League Freshman of the Year. It is the first time in school history that a Jackrabbit soccer student-athlete was named Newcomer/Freshman of the Year and the first time that a SDSU freshman earned first team honors.
Nyblom played the middle of the field and started all 17 games for the Jacks. She scored four goals and assisted on four more for 12 total points. Thanks to her one goal, one assist regular season finale, the 2012 team captain moved into 10th on the SDSU career scoring leaderboard.
Patterson also earned all-league honors as a second-team honoree.
Patterson started every game for the Jackrabbit defense. She assisted on three goals this season, including one in the regular season opener, a 2-0 win at Green Bay. Patterson attempted nine shots this season, including five on goal for a shots on goal percentage of .556. Patterson earned Defensive Player of the Week for her performances Oct. 15-21.
Both Potterveld and Patterson also earned all-league freshman team honors.
