INDIANAPOLIS - The South Dakota State softball team opened Summit League play on Friday with a pair of losses at IUPUI, dropping the opener 10-2 and the night cap 12-0, both in five innings.
The sweep drops the Jackrabbits to 8-15 on the season overall and to 0-2 in Summit League play, while the Jaguars improve to 10-9 overall and to 2-0 in the league.
Bingham opened the scoring with her solo shot in the SDSU second inning, her forus homer of the season, but the host Jaguars came right back with two runs in the bottom of the frame, and then added three more in the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead.
The Jacks got one back on Eitel's third long ball of the season in the top of the fourth inning, but the Jags came right back with two more in the bottom of the fourth and then locked up the win with a three run fifth to end the game via the eight run rule.
The Jaguars kept the offense rolling in Game 2, scoring their e12 runs on 17 hits, all while holding the Jackrabbits to one hit, a Devon Reick bunt single to open the game.
IUPUI scored two runs in the first, three each in the second and third innings and four more in the fourth to seal a second-straight run-rule victory.
The Jacks look to avoid the series sweep on Saturday at 11 a.m.
