The South Dakota State women’s soccer team began fall practice on Wednesday. The Jackrabbits return nine starters from last year’s team and are 16 days from their regular season opener against Iowa State on Aug. 23.

Darci Miller, Christa Nyblom and Shelby Raper talked about the upcoming season.

Coming off a year where she had three goals and two assists, Miller was named captain for the 2013 season.

Miller talked about the first day of practice and being named team captain, she said, “I thought it went really well, a little long for the first practice, but I thought the intensity was good. I am really honored; there is a lot of leadership on the team, especially in my class.  We have a lot of good team chemistry.”

Nyblom has joined the Jackrabbit coaching staff as the graduate assistant coach. Nyblom played for four years at SDSU and was the captain for the 2012 season.

“I am really excited to see how this team is going to do; there is a lot of potential. There are some things that we have to work on, but overall I think it is going to be a great year,” said Nyblom about the upcoming season.

Nyblom noted that she is happy to still be a part of the Jackrabbit soccer program, “I’m glad that I am still part of the program and can help out as much as possible.”

Shelby Raper is one of the nine incoming freshman for the 2013 season. She competed in her first practice as a Jackrabbit and said, “It was good. Kind of overwhelming, just not used to it, but all of the girls are very nice and I feel at home here.”
