BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The South Dakota State softball team played 14 and a half innings on Saturday at the Hilltopper Classic hosted by Western Kentucky, but only finished one of the two games, a 2-1 loss to Dayton in the first game of the day.

The Jackrabbits began their game with Valparaiso in the afternoon, but a power failure forced the suspension of the game after seven and a half innings with the score knotted at 2-2.

SDSU ends the day with a 4-8 record, while the Flyers improve to 1-6 with the victory.

Down 1-0 entering the top of the seventh inning in the first game of the day against Dayton, Emily Weber drew a walk, advanced to second two batters later when Alex Landon also drew a walk to put two Jackrabbits on with one out.

That brought up Kori Seidlitz, who reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with one out. Marlee Petersen came up next and also reached on a fielder's choice that scored Weber from third base to tie the game at 1-1 before the rally stalled.

The Flyers drew a leadoff walk to open the bottom of the seventh, sacrificed that runner to second and then pushed the run across two batters later to end the game.

Seidlitz took the loss after giving up two runs, one earned in six and two-thirds innings on six hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.  She also posted one of the three Jackrabbit hits on the day.

The Jackrabbits resume their game with Valparaiso on Sunday at 9 a.m., before closing the tournament against Western Michigan immediately following the conclusion of the game against the Crusaders.
