Softball swept at Western Illinois
MACOMB, Ill. - Summit League play continued on Friday for the South Dakota State softball team, but the Jackrabbits woes continued, as Western Illinois swept the doubleheader with a 7-2 and 9-3.
The pair of losses drops the Jackrabbits to 4-11 overall and to 0-5 in league play, while the Fighting Leathernecks improve to 12-13 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Trailing 4-0 in the opener, the Jackrabbits plated two runs in the fifth inning to get back into the game, but Western got those runs back, plus one insurance run, in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Tied at one in the second inning of the nightcap, the Leathernecks took command of the game with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Jacks plated two runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 5-3, only to surrender four runs in the bottom of the sixth, thus sealing the Western win.
