MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois scored six runs in each of the first two innings, giving the Fighting Leathernecks more than enough to run away with a 13-1 win over South Dakota State on Saturday.

The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in The Summit League, while Western Illinois evens its overall record to 13-13 and improves to 5-1 in league play.

The Jacks avoided the shutout on a Tina Winter RBI single that scored Jessica Markanich, who opened the inning with a pinch hit double, but the Leathernecks got that run back in the bottom of the inning to help secure the five inning victory.

The Jackrabbits look to get back on the winning track next week in Greeley, Colo., in a three game series against Northern Colorado. The Jacks and Bears open with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. MT, and then close the series with a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT.
