Softball splits at North Dakota
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - South Dakota State got an RBI single from Morgan McCabe and an RBI double from Alex Landon in the 11th inning to secure a 5-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader at North Dakota on Monday. North Dakota came back to earn the split with a 4-3 win in the night cap.
The Jacks end the day with a 9-20-1 record. UND ends the day with at 13-24.
Kori Seidlitz started Game 1 and pitched five and a third innings, giving up three runs on nine hits, with six strikeouts and two walks. Mindy Lorimor pitched five and two thirds innings in relief, giving up three hits, with three strikeouts and no walks to earn her first collegiate win.
Devon Reick went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two walks in the opener to lead the Jacks. She also scored the go-ahead run on McCabe's single in the 11th after leading off with an infield single and stealing second.
SDSU and UND exchanged single runs in the first inning of Game 2, and then exchanged two runs each in the third inning to make it 3-3 after three innings.
North Dakota broke the tie with a single run in the fourth and held that lead until the end, never allowing a Jackrabbit to get past first base for the final three innings.
Pam Nicholson went the distance took the loss for the Jacks in the circle, giving up four runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
SDSU returns to Summit League play on Friday, when the Jacks travel to Rochester, Mich., to take on Oakland in a three game series. SDSU and OU get things started on Friday 1 p.m.
