Softball drops two at SUU
CEDAR CITY, Utah - The South Dakota State softball team made its final trip to Cedar City, Utah for Summit League action this weekend and received a cold welcome from the host Thunderbirds, who downed the Jackrabbits 10-0 and 8-0 on Friday, both in five innings.
The Jacks fall to 10-24-1 overall and to 4-13 in The Summit League, while Southern Utah improves to 27-19 overall and remains near the top of the league with a 13-7 mark.
Emily Weber went 1-for-2 in the opener and Marlee Petersen singled in her only at bat for the Jacks only two hits, as T-bird starter Heather Black did not allow a Jackrabbit to get past first base. Black got plenty of support as well, with two runs in the first and seven more in the second to seal the win.
Black started the second game of the day as well, and allowed just one hit through four innings to earn her second win of the day and 17th of the season. SUU pounded out 11 hits and used a six-run second inning to run away with the doubleheader sweep.
The Jacks look to avoid the series sweep on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT, noon CT.
