CEDAR, CITY, Utah - The South Dakota State softball team hung with Southern Utah for the first four and a half innings, but a six-run fifth inning gave Thunderbird starter Heather Black more than enough support in a 7-0 win over the Jackrabbits on Saturday.

The loss drops the Jacks to 10-25-1 overall and to 4-14 in The Summit League, which ends the Jacks hopes of making the league tournament in May. Southern Utah improves to 28-19 overall and to 14-7 in league play.

Black, who did not give up a run in winning all three games in the series, scattered four hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in the win.

The Jackrabbits return home for their final eight games of the season, starting on Wednesday, when the Jacks host Drake in a "think pink" doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
