Trailing 3-2 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Alex Landon blasted a double off the fence in right field to give South Dakota State a walk-off 4-3 win over Drake on Wednesday at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.

Landon's walk-off double in Game 2 came after Marlee Petersen's grand slam homerun highlighted the Jackrabbits to a 6-2 win in the opener.

The Jackrabbits, who wore pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer, snapped a five game losing streak and improved to 12-25-1, while the Bulldogs dropped to 20-27.

SDSU opened the scoring on the day, capitalizing on a Sammy Bingham triple with an RBI single from Kelly Kleppin.

Drake got that run back in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1, but the Jacks came right back with five runs in the bottom of the third with and RBI single from Bingham and Petersen's grand slam over the right field fence to put the Jacks up 6-1.

The Bulldogs scored one run in the fourth to make it 6-2, but Jackrabbit starter Pam Nicholson kept them off the board for the final three innings. Nicholson scattered five hits and gave up two runs, one earned, in the complete game win, with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Devon Reick went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot, but did not score, as the bottom third of the order did most of the damage with four RBI from Peterson and one each from Kleppin and Bingham.

Drake started the scoring in the night cap with two runs in the third inning, and kept the Jacks off the board until the fifth inning, when Petersen halved the lead with a single down the left field line that scored Bingham, who drew a walk to open the inning.

The Bulldogs added what looked like an insurance run in the top of the seventh to go up 3-1, until the Jacks started a rally in the final frame.

Tina Winter opened the seventh with a single and then advanced to second two batters later when Samantha Terry drew a pinch hit base on balls. That brought up Vanessa Kellems, who came through with an infield single to load the bases.

Reick drew a walk from the leadoff spot to get the Jacks within one at 3-2 with one out, setting the stage for Landon, who came up two batters later with the bases loaded and delivered the game-winning blast over the right fielder's head, giving the Jacks a walk-off win and a sweep in their final non-conference games of the season.

Kori Seidlitz went the distance for the Jacks in the circle, giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

The Jacks return to action on Friday with a doubleheader against Summit League leading North Dakota State at 2 p.m., but weather may force changes in the weekend schedule, so stay with GoJacks.com for the latest schedule updates.
