After directing the South Dakota State softball program for the past two years, head coach Kim Aggabao announced her resignation on Friday and accepted the same position at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif.

“First off, I want to thank director of athletics Justin Sell for the incredible opportunity to lead the Jackrabbit softball program for the past two years. I'm so grateful for the wonderful support from everyone at South Dakota State and in the Brookings community,” Aggabao said. “I loved being a Jackrabbit, but at this time, due to some circumstances back home, it’s important for me to move closer to my family. I will always be so thankful for my time as a Jackrabbit.”

“We talk about our Jackrabbit family a lot here, so we fully support Kim in her decision to move closer to her immediate family in California,” Sell said. “Kim got our softball program on the right track, and with the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex coming online next fall, I expect great things from this program in the future. I thank Kim for her commitment to SDSU and wish her all the best in her life and career.”

A Walnut, Calif., native and 2004 graduate of UC San Diego, Aggabao came to South Dakota State after seven seasons as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego, where she served as the team’s hitting coach, infield coach and recruiting coordinator.

In two seasons as head coach for the Jackrabbits, Aggabao posted a 29-57-1 record, including a 16-30 mark in 2013, when the team did not play a single game at home due to the wet spring.

SDSU will start a national search to fill the position immediately.
