Scholarship Auction raises over 270K for student-athletes
The 2011 Jackrabbit Athletic Scholarship Auction was held this past Saturday in Frost Arena, and thanks to the 470 fans, friends and supporters in attendance, the event raised over $270,000 that directly impacts Jackrabbit student athletes.
"I can't say enough about the support we have received for this event," Director of Athletics Justin Sell said. "From those in attendance, sponsors and a gracious donor that matched every dollar raised that night, we generated enough to fund the equivalent of 20 full, in-state scholarships.
"This event had many moving parts and it took the hard work and dedication of many volunteers and our loyal business partners to make this event a success," SDSU Assistant Athletic Director for Development Alex Kringen Said. "We raised the bar and the level of expectations for this event for years to come."
The atmosphere of Frost Arena on the campus of South Dakota State University was electric due in large part to the 200 student-athletes who volunteered to help out with the event. People in attendance were amazed at the makeover that Frost Arena underwent to provide a first class experience.
The night included many highlights, most notably the opportunity for our supporters and fans to meet our outstanding Jackrabbit student-athletes that their dollars go to support. Also included was the J. Lohr Wine tasting, led by Jerry Lohr, a 1958 SDSU Graduate and President of J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines and SDSU swimming and diving student-athlete, and former Miss South Dakota, Alex Hoffman receiving a standing ovation from the audience for her outstanding career.
A special thanks to Orthopedic Institute, First Premier Bank, Beal Distributing, J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines and Aramark making this event possible. SDSU Athletics would also like to thank the JASA volunteer committee for their time and efforts.
Mark your calendar for next year's auction, scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2012.
