Distance running standout Joel Brandt was inducted into the Jackrabbit Sports Hall of Fame during on-campus ceremonies in the fall of 2012.

Brandt continued the Jackrabbits' excellence in distance running, winning five individual North Central Conference titles and earning All-America honors on two occasions. The Clear Lake native began a string of distance titles by winning the 5,000-meter title at the 1980 NCC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, later earning All-America honors with an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships. He claimed the NCC individual cross country title in the fall of 1980, followed by the 5,000-meter title indoors in 1981. In the spring of 1981, Brandt earned Outstanding Performer honors at the NCC Outdoor Track and Field Championships by winning both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs.  He closed out his collegiate career with a third-place finish in the 5K at the NCAA Division II Championships.

In all, Brandt was a member of seven conference championship teams. The Jackrabbits won four cross country team titles (1977-80), two outdoor track and field championships (1979, 1981) and one indoor track and field title (1981).
