VERMILLION, S.D. – The women’s track and field team is in fifth place after day one of competition. Brooke Garner beat her own personal best and school record in the weight throw; she finished with a mark of 63’ 6.25”. Garner finished second overall in the event.
In the semifinals of the 60-meter dash Carly Carper, Ashley Odegaard and Gina Fritz all advanced to the finals. Carper, Odegaard and Fritz ran 7.71, 7.73 and 7.78 respectively. All are new personal bests for the runners.
Carper also finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 17’ 6.00”.
In the 200-meter dash semifinals, Fritz qualified fourth with her time of 25.20.
Krista Creager posted a time of 2:19.29 in the 800-meter run, which was good enough to qualify seventh for the finals tomorrow.
Megan Bren qualified sixth in the 400-meter dash with her time of 58.72. She also qualified for the 200-meter dash with her time of 25.54.
Shelby Assmus posted a distance of 54’ 10.26” to take fifth place in the weight throw.
In the 3000-meter run, Tera Potts finished fifth with a time of 10:04.10, Erin Hargens placed 11th with her time of 10:19.65.
The distance medley relay team of Creager, Lori Foltz, Jessica Eibs and Samantha Anderson finished fourth with their time of 12:25.24.
The Jackrabbits will be back in action again tomorrow as they wrap-up day two of The Summit League Indoor Championships. The events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men’s 60-meter hurdles (heptathlon).
