Jacks drop rubber game to Toreros
SAN DIEGO - South Dakota State surrendered four runs on five hits in the fifth inning on Wednesday in a 5-1 loss in the rubber game of a three game series with San Diego.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 8-13 on the season, while the Toreros improve to 9-11.
The Jacks fell into an early 1-0 hole, but came right back with one run in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1. Kori Seidlitz drew a leadoff walk to open the frame advanced to second on an Allison Huffman sacrifice and then scored after a Marlee Petersen hit and a fielding error.
Neither team scored again until the Toreros put the game away with their fifth inning rally, which represented the final runs of the game.
Four different Jackrabbits recorded a hit in the game, and Seidlitz took the loss after tossing four and a third innings, giving up five runs on nine hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
The Jacks get an eight day break before opening Summit League play on March 15 with a three-game series at IUPUI. The series starts with a doubleheader on Friday, March 15 at 2 p.m.
