Three Jacks win in day two of Jean Freeman Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – South Dakota State won three events on the second and final day of the 2013 Jean Freeman Invite.

SDSU swept the 1650 freestyle as Andrea Budahl won the women’s side and Matthew Carpenter won the men’s. Budahl and teammate Emma Gaulke-Janowski finished first and second with times of 17:22.20 and 17:24.27, respectively. On the men’s side, Carpenter took the top spot with a time of 16:10.20, while Chris Angerhofer finished in 16:16.76, good for second.

The Jacks other win came in the 200 breaststroke, as Emily Campbell won the event with a time of 2:16.01.

In the 100 backstroke, Hadlie Overhue took fourth with a time of 59.32, while Phil Albu took sixth with a time of 53.09 on the men’s side. Wil Hogue also placed fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.25.

In the dives that took place yesterday, Olivia Olesiak won the 3-meter dive with a score of 247.10 and placed fourth in the 1-meter with a mark of 235.30.

On the boards for the SDSU men, the Jacks took the top-three spots in the 3-meter as Connor Florand, Clark Kocourek, and Noah Batenhorst scored 302.40, 276.90 and 243.15, respectively.

SDSU will return to action on Jan. 4 at the St. Pete’s Classic in St. Petersburg, Fla.
