Schreier honored as Athlete of the Month
ELMHURST, Ill. — South Dakota State University swimmer Chris Schreier has been selected as Summit League Athlete of the Month for his accomplishments in the pool during November.
A freshman from Portage, Ind., Schreier won all five individual races in which he competed during two duals in November. He also was a member of two first-place relay teams during the month. Four of those races resulted in school records, while one set a new pool record.
In a two-point loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay on Nov. 5, Schreier won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.02 and set a school record time of 1:51.96 in the 200 butterfly, then the top time in the league. He was also on the winning 400 medley relay team that set a school record.
A two-time Athlete of the Week in November, Schreier set school records in the 100 fly (50.96 seconds) and 200 medley relay (1:36.04) in a victory over South Dakota on Nov. 20. He also set a pool record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:06.88. The 100 fly and 400 IM times were second in the league during the month. Schreier also won the 200 freestyle against USD, touching the wall with a time of 1:43.78.
For the year, Scheier is undefeated in dual meets in the 200 free, 100 fly and 200 fly events.
North Dakota State volleyball player Chrissy Knuth earned the Women's Athlete of the Month award.
