INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - A new 800 freestyle relay record was set for the men and women Wednesday night during the opening day of the 2011 Summit League Championships.
For the women, Shauna Foor, Jessica Ferley, Andrea Budahl and Alexandra Hoffman combined to finish third in 7 minutes, 41.64 seconds to break the record set at last year's Championships.
On the men's side, the fourth place team of Chris Schreier, Kyle Avocato, Kyle Catani and Kyle Ochsner clocked in at 6:54.78, crushing the previous mark by nearly six seconds.
Schreier's opening 200 freestyle split of 1:42.48 set a new SDSU record by .01 seconds. The previous mark of 1:42.49 was set by Mark Garrigues back in 2006.
The first full day of
competition begins Thursday with swimming preliminaries begin at 11 a.m.
(ET) followed directly by diving preliminaries. Swimming finals start
at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and will be followed by the diving finals.
