Dakota State javelin thrower Arran Davis was named Thursday to the Capital One Academic
All-America Division I Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team as selected by
the College Sports Information Directors of America.
In total, 45 student-athletes earned honors across first, second and third teams. Davis, along with 14 other student-athletes, earned third-team recognition for his academic and athletic performance.
A native of Winona, Minn., Davis was selected with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in global studies and Spanish. In competition, Davis recorded a career-best throw of 190 feet in 2011, later finishing as runner-up at the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He wrapped up his collegiate career with a seventh-place effort at the 2012 championships.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
The honor adds to a growing list of accomplishments for Davis, who was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team earlier this month.
