Ary places second at conference

FARGO, N.D. – Jeremiah Ary tallied a personal-best distance of 23 feet, 9 1/2 inches en route to a second-place finish in the long jump on the second day of the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Also in the long jump, Ryan Schaefer placed eighth with his mark of 21-4 1/4.

In the shot put event, Austin Benson and Kyle Anderson finished back-to-back with seventh- and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Benson tallied a mark of 50-1 3/4, while Anderson posted a personal-best distance of 49-1 1/2.

Three Jackrabbit jumpers finished in the top-10 of the high jump event. Zach Koosman repeated his performance from the indoor conference meet with his third-place finish. Koosman recorded a height of 6-7. Connor Berg and Jake Sanderson both cleared a height of 6-5. Berg placed fifth and Sanderson took seventh. Sanderson’s mark today is a personal-best for him in the high jump event.

Traxton Priebe and Bennett Mercil both qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles Saturday. Priebe ran a time of 15.89 seconds (eighth) and Mercil clocked in at 16.25 (ninth).

In the prelims of the 400-meter dash, Marc Husman posted the fastest time on the day (49.09). Also in the 400-meter dash, Adam Halverson (49.21) and Austin Johnsen (50.76) both posted personal-best times on the afternoon. Halverson is sitting in sixth, while Johnsen is in ninth.

LeAndre Kennedy and Bo Arnold both advanced to Saturday finals in the 100-meter dash. Kennedy ran a time of 11.04 (sixth) and Arnold posted a time of 11.05 (seventh).

Ryan Swenson moved on to the finals of the 800-meter run with his overall time of 1:56.05. He is currently in eighth-place.

In the 200-meter dash, Kory Kohlhof posted a time of 22.71 to advance to the finals. Kohlhof ran the ninth-fastest time.

In the final event of the day, the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Drew Kraft (third) and Andrew Thies (fourth) both placed in the top-five. Kraft ran a time of 9:06.18 and Thies clocked in at 9:14.82. They both ran personal-best times today.

Mercil entered the final day of the decathlon event in seventh-place. Mercil tallied three personal-bests on the day. He started the day with a personal-best time of 16.02 in the 110-meter hurdles to place fourth. His second personal-best on the day occurred in the discus throw, where he recorded a mark of 101-6. In the pole vault event, Mercil took fourth with his height of 13-0 3/4. He tallied another personal-best mark with his distance of 142-5 in the javelin throw. In the final event of the day, the 1,500-meter run, Mercil clocked in for a time of 5:05.68. Overall, he placed fifth with a total of 5,944 points.

The final day of the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships start Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. (men’s pole vault).
