Anthony Bongard captures his second consecutive and second career Summit League Athlete of the Week honor after winning the individual title and leading the South Dakota State men's cross country team to its second team win this season at the SDSU Classic Oct. 2 in Brookings, S.D.
The
junior from Redwood Falls, Minn. finished the 8K with a time of 24
minutes 46.10 seconds. The time beats the personal-best he set for himself a week ago by nearly a minute.
Bongard,
who recorded his first win of the season and second career win at the Classic, was
named Summit League Athlete of the Week last week after his performance at the
Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by Minnesota, Sept. 25. He ran the Griak's 8K in 25:29.3.
"Anthony had another strong race working with Michael Krsnak much of the way," said head coach Rod DeHaven. "His focus is tremendous at the moment and it's really making a difference."
The Jackrabbits have the weekend off before traveling to Pre Nationals Oct. 16 in Terre Haute, Ind.
