DES MOINES, Iowa - Mary Wirth tied the school high-jump record and the South Dakota State women's 4x200-meter relay team set a new school record Friday as the men's and women's track teams competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wirth's high jump mark of five feet 8.75 inches ties the record set by Jill Wittenwyler in 1993. The freshman's mark was high enough for seventh place at the Relays.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Heather Wollman, Ashley Odegaard, Megan Bren and Brittany Garner blew away the school record of one minute 41.10 seconds, set in 1992. The team's time of 1:40.41 placed 13th in the finals.

The SDSU women's 4x100-meter relay team placed 12th in the preliminary race with a time of 46.72. The time, set by Wollman, Odegaard, Bren and Garner, ranks third on the all-time list at SDSU.

The same foursome notched a 23rd-place time on 3:48.97 in the 4x400-meter relay preliminaries. The time ranks fourth at SDSU.

On the men's side, Jared Vlastuin finished the long jump with a 12th-place mark of 24-00.75, while Arran Davis finished the javelin in 23rd with a throw of 172-01. 

The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Dominic Thielen, Jake Schneller, Jared Ailts and Kelly Hall, finished the race in 7:33.30 for ninth place.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Dustin Gibbons, Schneller, Jared Foote and Luke Leischner crossed the finish line in 3:15.55 for the 13th-place spot in the preliminary race.

The Drake Relays continue Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
