Relay team sets SDSU record at Howard Wood
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -The women's 4x100-meter relay team broke the South Dakota State record Friday at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The relay team, consisting of Heather Wollman, Ashley Odegaard, Megan Bren and Brittany Garner, finished the race in first with a time of 46.08 seconds. Wollman and Garner were part of the four-person team that held the former school record of 46.36, set in 2009.
Ashley Lange tallied a win for the women with a first-place triple jump with her leap of 37-2.25.
Luke Leischner and Dominic Thielen led the men with event wins. Leischner won the 400 meters with a time of 47.54, while Thielen won the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.31. Jared Foote followed Leischner in the 400 meters with a second-place time of 48.09, ranked fourth on SDSU's all-time top-10 list.
The Jackrabbits dominated the top-three spots in the women's hammer throw. Brooke Garner finished second in the event with a toss of 172 feet nine inches, while Michelle Schuch finished third with a mark of 166-05.
Krista Creager and Erin Hargens rounded out the top-three finishers for the Jackrabbit women. Creager finished with the second-place spot in the 800 meters. She crossed the finish line in 2:18.22. Hargens finished the 3,000 meters in third with a time of 10:12.57.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team claimed the second-place spot with a time of 41.86, the sixth-best time for a Jackrabbit relay team.
Sean Burns claimed the number three spot in both the discus throw and the hammer throw with tosses of 156-07 and 175-09, respectively.
Arran Davis rounds out the top-three finishers on the men's side with a third-place javelin toss of 168-05.
The Jackrabbits continue the Howard Wood Dakota Relays Saturday.
