South Dakota State men's track and field middle distance runner Jake Schneller was best in the 800-meter run on Saturday at the Outdoor Championships...

Schneller entered the finals with the second-best time in the preliminaries from Friday, but took the top spot on Day 3 with a time of 1:50.95 to win by 0.13 seconds. The time was over two seconds faster than the preliminary mark.

Schneller led for the majority of the race, but was overtaken midway through the second lap. As the runners made the turn for the home stretch, Schneller picked up the pace and passed the leader with under 50 meters remaining.

The win is the second for SDSU men this Outdoor Championships.
