Vlastuin set for long jump...
South Dakota State men's track and field jumper Jared Vlastuin is set to compete in the long jump at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship...
The championship is slated to begin on June 6 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Vlastuin qualified in the long jump with a mark of 25 feet, three and one-half inches to finish 10th. He made the mark with his second jump in the preliminary stage. The distance was one-half inch short of his season-best at the 2012 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which was a school record and stadium record.
Vlastuin entered the West Prelim as the No. 13 seed.
The 10th-place finish continued a stellar season for Vlastuin, who won four long jump titles this season (Bryan Clay Invite, USF Relays and Dakota Duals), which included a league championship. Vlastuin set the school record at the league championships with a mark of 25 feet, four inches, to top his own previous mark by two inches.
Vlastuin received Male Field Championship MVP of the 2012 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as well.
Long jump trials and final are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6.
