The South Dakota State volleyball team signed one player to a National Letter of Intent and added another player to the 2013 roster as announced by head coach Phil McDaniel on Thursday.

A 5-10 setter from Westminster, Colo., Brooke Leetham signed a National Letter of Intent, indicating her plans to enroll at South Dakota State and compete for the Jackrabbit volleyball program.

“Brooke is a very bright young lady who has the opportunity to come in to a team and push our senior setter, while also learning from our senior’s experiences in The Summit League,” McDaniel said. “She locates very well and is quite knowledgeable about the game. Her personality makes her a natural fit with our returners, and with our incoming group of freshmen.”

A four-year team captain at Standley Lake High School, Leetham earned team MVP and all-conference honors in each of her last three years of high school, adding the team’s “Heart of the Gator” award in 2011.

In addition to her skills on the court, Leetham gets it done in the classroom as well as a three-year member of the honor roll and two-year member of the National Honor Society. She also earned first team academic all-state in both 2011 and 2012.

Leetham played club ball for Juggernaut Volleyball for six years and plans on majoring in education and Spanish at South Dakota State.

A 5-8 defensive specialist from Mitchell, Megan Farnham gained acceptance to SDSU and indicated her plans to play on the Jackrabbit volleyball team in 2013.

“Megan is a true Jackrabbit at heart, it’s in her blood! She’s competitive and driven on the court and in the classroom,” McDaniel said. “I believe that Megan will work extremely hard for the Jackrabbit program, and will push herself and her teammates to perform at a high level every time they step on the court.”

A three-sport athlete for the Kernels, Farnham earned four varsity letters in both volleyball and basketball at Mitchell High School, and five letters in track and field.

As a team captain for the volleyball team in 2012, Farnham earned first team All-Eastern South Dakota Conference and second team all-state honors to go along with MVP, most inspirational and “Kernel Krusher” awards from her team.

Farnham broke the Mitchell High School record for digs per match as a senior and led all players at the state tournament for digs. She also posted a 94.5 career serve percentage.

In addition to numerous other honors earned on basketball and track and field, Farnham served as class president in both her freshman and sophomore years, and as student body president in 2012-13. She is also a four-year honor roll student and two-year member of the National Honor Society.
