South Dakota State University javelin thrower Arran Davis has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team.
A senior from Winona, Minn., and a repeat selection to the academic honor squad, Davis will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration later this month.
Davis was selected to the 10-member squad with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in global studies and Spanish. In competition, Davis recorded a career-best throw of 190 feet in 2011, later finishing as runner-up at the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He wrapped up his collegiate career with a seventh-place effort at the 2012 championships.
Selections to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 Team were determined by a vote of sports information directors in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Candidates must be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, a starter or key reserve on his or her team and carry at least a 3.3 GPA.
