The 2013 Midwest Regionals are hosted by Iowa State and take place at the Iowa State Cross Country cross in Ames, Iowa. The men's 10k starts at noon, while the women's 6k begins at 1:15 p.m.
LAST YEAR AT THE REGIONAL MEET
Last year’s regional meet was hosted by Missouri State. The men’s team finished 11th overall and were paced by Michael Krsnak who ran a time of 31:29.04 to place 47th.
The women were led by Erin Hargens, who ran a final time of 22:05.82, to finish 59th overall. As a team, the women took 15th.
LAST TIME OUT
The men won their fourth conference title in the past five year two weeks ago, while the women’s second place finish is the highest since 2008 (1st). Trent Lusignan became the second Jackrabbit to win the conference individual title; he posted a time of 24:49.92.
Cheyanne Bowers ran a time of 21:34.38 to take second overall in the women’s 6k. The second place finish by the Jackrabbit women is the highest finish in The Summit League since they won the title in 2008. Bowers’ place is the highest finish for an individual runner at the conference meet as well.
For the first time in school history, both Jackrabbit cross country teams are ranked in the Midwest region. The men’s team heads into the race with a ranking of 11 and the women cracked the rankings at No. 15.
SUMMIT LEAGUE HONORS
During the regular season Joel Reichow and Lusignan both were honored as The Summit League’s Athlete on numerous occasions. Reichow claimed the title two times, while Lusignan was honored three times. Reichow was also named The Summit League’s Athlete of the Month for Aug./Sept.
The top two teams on each side will advance to the NCAA Championships next weekend in Terre Haute, Ind. Teams can also qualify via an at-large berth. The top four finishers not on a qualifying team are selected to the championship race, but they must finish in the top-25 at the regional meet.
