Lusignan leads Jacks to team title

South Dakota State runners claimed three of the top four spots en route to the men's team title at the SDSU Classic Friday night at Edgebrook Golf Course.

Trent Lusignan paced the Jackrabbit contingent by placing first out of 69 runners in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 24 minutes, 59.13 seconds. A sophomore from Shakopee, Minn., Lusignan finished 20 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, teammate Michael Krsnak, who crossed the finish line in 25:19.90.

Jared Ailts finished fourth in 25:33.91, while Drew Kraft added a top-10 finish with a ninth-place time of 26:05.95.

Kenny Mayer rounded out the scoring effort for the Jackrabbits with a 12th-place time of 26.22.40. Phillip LaVallee and Andrew Thies turned in top-20 performances with times of 26:31.34 and 26:35.90 to finish 15th and 19th, respectively.

The Jackrabbits cruised to the team title with 25 points, followed by Minnesota State, Moorhead with 60 points and North Dakota State at 80.

SDSU returns to action Sept. 29 at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational.
