The South Dakota State men's tennis team closed out its weekend with a sweep at Nebraska Wesleyan on Monday.

Playing in a format where each doubles match counted for one team point, the Jacks swept the doubles play.

Henrique Pereira and Parker Lawley dominated the top spot with an 8-2 win, while Luke Elifson and James Thorp were 8-3 winners at No. 2 and Mateus Moreira and Lucas Pereira were 8-4 winners at No. 3.

"We have been working on our energy, especially in doubles," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We saw major improvements this weekend."

Singles was more of the same, as SDSU won in straight sets at each position and no Jackrabbit lost more than four games in a single set.

H. Pereira was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 1 and Moreira won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Lawley did not lose a single game at No. 3 and L. Pereira was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4. Thorp dropped only one game at No. 5 and Luis Duque won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.

The shutout win upped SDSU's record to 2-6.

"Overall, it was a solid weekend of tennis for us," Engdahl said. "Every match we are taking baby steps forward. We need to all step up as individuals and as a team and win some matches we are not supposed to win. That is the big step forward we need to focus on and we have opportunities to do so our next couple matches."

The Jacks do not return to action until next month. SDSU visits Creighton on March 1 at 6 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.
